Summer 2015: More than six hundred concerts in Southern California

More than six hundred concerts will be staged during the coming weeks featuring major starlets (Taylor Swift), hot contemporary acts (Foo Fighters, Imagine Dragons, Kelly Clarkson, Nicki Minaj, Christina Perri), industry legends (Aretha Franklin, Willie Nelson) and seasoned veterans (Journey, Van Halen). The former home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Kings — which last year was added to the National Register of Historic Places — has been fabulously updated into a concert and events venue that boasts the latest in technology and amenities. It reopened in January two thousand fourteen with six concerts by the Eagles and last summer hosted the MTV Movie Music Awards.

Nestled in a picturesque Griffith Park canyon, the Greek’s tree-enclosed setting offers an intimate practice for up to Five,900 guests. One of the world’s best-known outdoor amphitheaters, the venue is known for its wonderful acoustics. Pre-concert picnics are popular, with local delis and restaurants suggesting specials. Even the cheap seats are a good vantage point from which to love the performers on stage, pyrotechnics that light up many nighttime shows and the Hollywood sign in the distance; just bring cushions and binoculars.
