Car manufacturers are fighting back against the war on diesel

Leading German carmakers are taking a stance against the ‘death of diesel` cars and fighting so the technology has a future.

Diesel cars presently count for around fifty per cent of the European car market but their reputation has taken a significant hit as of late due to reports about their emissions.

Since 2015, the diesel narrative has been negative and there are initiatives and schemes coming into force in the UK to encourage British motorists to stop driving them.

The software updates are believed to be costing Daimler €220m to reduce the emissions of these cars.

In light of this, BMW and Audi also agreed to voluntarily retrofit more than fifty per cent of its «Euro Five» diesel-engine cars to improve the vehicles emissions.

Euro five diesel engine cars are vehicles manufactured after 2009.

There are more intelligent options than driving confinements

BMW and Audi said they would be able to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by twenty per cent over the next five years by «upgrading» almost fifty per cent of the Euro five diesel cars.

BMW chief executive Harald Krüger said in a statement that they «believe there are more intelligent options than driving confinements.»

«Even just talking abut it unsettles millions of drivers.

«For this reason we are supporting the Bavarian State Government`s initiative to achieve overall and sustainable improvement in air quality in our cities.»

According to the Bavarian State Government, if other car makers join this fightback for diesel, NOx emissions of diesel cars could be halved in Germany 2021.

Now many cities across Europe are taking a rough stance against diesel cars, banning or restricting the use of these vehicles.
