M40 Car Crash Pile-Up Leaves One Dead After thirty Cars Collide Near Bicester, Oxfordshire

At least one person is understood to have died in a motorway pile-up involving thirty cars on the M40, on the same day that three boys were killed when a coach collided with a stationary car on the northbound M1.

Oxfordshire, just before 7.50am after dozens of vehicles were involved in a crash.

A South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman said they are presently assessing more than thirty patients.

The motorway has been closed northbound inbetween the junctions, while a duo of southbound lanes are shut along the same spread.

An ambulance spokeswoman said it is too early to know the nature and severity of the injuries suffered by drivers. She said: “It is fairly a major collision. We were called at 7.48am to reports of a numerous road traffic collision on the M40, junctions nine to ten northbound. I understand that there are about thirty vehicles involved. We are presently assessing in excess of thirty patients.

“We have a lot of resources on the scene – ambulances, our helicopter ambulance, rapid response vehicles, our doctor and our hazardous area response team. Fire and police are also at the scene.”

Thames Valley Roads Policing said on Twitter:

M40 J9-10 North closed due to numerous RTC’s. Avoid the area. All Emergency services responding to incidents. Updates will go after Sgt 498.

A Highways Agency spokesman said all lanes north along the open up are closed and may remain shut for several hours as police investigate the crash. A duo of lanes south are also closed.

Motorists have also been advised to avoid a spread of the M1 after a serious crash involving a coach and a car.

Bedfordshire Police said the collision on the northbound carriageway of the motorway inbetween junctions twelve and 13, near Flitwick, at around 6.45am had resulted in a number of serious injuries.

In a statement, the force said: “The northbound carriageway only has been closed for a utter collision investigation and diversions are being established. Motorists are advised that these diversions are likely to be in place for most of the day.”
