Kentucky troopers nab suspected car thief

A Kentucky man was arrested on a host of charges near the Ohio Sea in Kentucky after allegedly leading Kentucky State Police officers on a high-speed pursuit in a stolen Henry County car.

Dakota A. Miller, Nineteen, Kevil, Ky., was arrested Friday night off State Route one hundred thirty seven near Pisgah Road near Smithland, Ky., by KSP officers.

He was charged with speeding twenty six miles per hour over the posted limit; one count of reckless driving; fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle; very first degree fleeing or evading police on foot; five counts of very first degree wanton endangerment of a police officer; three counts of disregarding a stop sign; improper use of left lane overtaking vehicle; failure to wear seatbelt; resisting arrest; very first offense DUI with aggravating circumstances; very first degree possession of methamphetamine; buying or possession of drug paraphernalia; very first degree criminal mischief; 2nd degree criminal mischief; two counts of 2nd degree receiving stolen property over $Ten,000; two counts of receiving a stolen firearm; license to be in possession; and unlawfully permitting a minor to wield a firearm.

Miller was also served with warrants for fugitive from another state; possession of methamphetamine; third-degree possession of managed substance; 2nd degree burglary; and failure to show up in court.

According to information from the KSP, troopers were patrolling on US Highway sixty in Kentucky when they noticed a blue Toyota Avalon listed as being stolen from Tennessee.

According to Henry County Sheriff’s Department reports, a car matching that description was stolen inbetween Wednesday night and Thursday morning during the burglary of an East Antioch Road home.

An alert for the car was issued to surrounding counties following the burglary.

Kentucky officers activated their emergency lights, and the driver, later identified as Miller, sped away and attempted to lose the troopers.

After a pursuit that spanned thirty miles, the car ran out of gas around Pisgah Road on State Route 137.

As the Avalon began slowing down, the driver made an abrupt turn into a nearby corn field, then abandoned the car.

He ran on foot from the scene, attempting to lose the officers in the cornfield.

Miller was apprehended with the help of a Kentucky K-9 officer.

The investigation is ongoing, and extra charges are pending. He is in the McCracken County Jail.
