Car club to embark up
Members from the freshly formed auto enthusiast club, Domestic Disturbance, check out cars on display Monday. The club held a car showcasing at Times Square Mall.
MT. VERNON — A passion for cars and motorcycles alike was on display Monday in the back parking lot of Times Square Mall.
Freshly created auto enthusiast club, Domestic Disturbance, held a group car demonstrate at the mall to display off their rails.
“ The name came from us having domestic cars,” said one of the administrators for the club, John Goff.
Goff said the club meets just about every two weeks at various locations. He added the club’s next venture is a cruise to Kinmundy on Labor Day.
The club doesn’t have a set location for its shows, but holds them wherever they can find room.
“ We truly don’t have permission exactly to hold our shows anywhere,” Goff explained. “We just attempt to be as respectful as we can. We aren’t there to cause a disturbance like our name may suggest, and we want to leave wherever we are clean and picked up.”
He also said that everyone is welcome to come out to the club’s events and see the cars.
“ Everyone is welcome, it doesn’t matter what kind of car you drive,” Goff said. “We’re just here to hangout, look at cars, talk about cars, and have a good time.”
Goff said his passion for cars began when he was youthful working as a mechanic.
“ I work for Salem Tire and I’ve just been working on cars ever since I was youthful,” Goff said. “We used to trade cars and help each other work on cars and it just kind of took off from there.”
Goff said the club is a excellent way for other auto enthusiasts to get in contact with people who share their passion for cars.
“ I think it’s fine,” Goff said. “When we very first commenced and had our very first showcase we had about twelve people I think. So now just to see the fresh people that are coming for the very first time and the people who have been there since day one is fine. It’s a good way to meet fresh people.”
Being one of the more older members of the club, Goff said something he likes most about the club is being a mentor to the junior guys.
“ It’s cool to be able to mentor the junior guys,” Goff said. “You can kind of help them with their cars and help them with mods they might not know about themselves.”
The club is in the planning stages of its next major demonstrate. The demonstrate is planned for Sept. Nineteen at the Rend Lake Golf Course near the water tower.
