Can your car be hacked? A fresh report from Charlie Miller of Twitter and Chris Valasek of IOActive details potential cyber vulnerabilities in automobiles.
Theoretically, hackers could do some harm if they exposed the weaknesses of these nine cars, from listening in on a call to manipulating the brakes. See if your car is on the list of hackable cars.
2014 Jeep Cherokee
Fuel economy: twenty two mpg city/31 mpg highway
Hackability: Hackers might be able to manipulate the Jeep Uconnect system, which includes navigation, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth phone pairing. Plus, the brakes, engine and steering systems could be exposed, leaving potential vulnerabilities in adaptive cruise control, parking assistance, crash mitigation and lane-departure warning systems.
2015 Cadillac Escalade
Fuel economy: fourteen mpg city/21 mpg highway
Hackability: The Escalade’s OnStar system, which includes wireless communications like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, has possible weaknesses. So does remote keyless entry. Bluetooth and telematics are on the same network as the brakes, steering and engine, causing its potential vulnerabilities.
2014 Infiniti Q50
Fuel economy: twenty mpg city/29 mpg highway
Hackability: Potentially hackable features include the Infiniti Connection system, remote keyless entry, Bluetooth, a cellular network, AM/FM/XM radio and proprietary radio. Adaptive cruise control, adaptive steering, steer-by-wire and driver assistance also may be susceptible to a hacker’s attacks.
2014 Toyota Prius
Fuel economy: fifty one mpg city/48 mpg highway
Hackability: With its Safety Connect system, Bluetooth, remote keyless entry, proprietary radio and a cellular network, Prius has a large potential remote attack surface. The brakes and steering are on the same network as the Bluetooth, posing a risk. Features like the self-parking and pre-collision systems could possibly be compromised.

Fuel economy: nineteen mpg city/31 mpg highway
Hackability: Potentially exploitable features on this vehicle include the Chrysler Uconnect system, as well as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, AM/FM/XM radio, remote keyless entry, proprietary radio and a cellular network. Adaptive cruise control and park assist are vulnerable as well.
2014 Range Rover Evoque
Fuel economy: twenty one mpg city/30 mpg highway
Hackability: There are several wireless communications that could be vulnerable on the Range Rover, including the InControl app, Bluetooth, remote keyless entry, a cellular network, Wi-Fi and proprietary radio.
Also risky are the electronic power-assisted steering, adaptive cruise control and automatic self-parking.
